Notice regarding dog flu:

By now everyone has heard about canine influenza in the news. HealthPointe Veterinary Clinic now has the canine flu vaccine available. This vaccine is bivalent, meaning that it is for 2 strains of the flu: H3N8 and H3N2. The vaccine is required to be given in 2 doses: the initial vaccine, and then a booster 3 weeks later. Owners should allow 2 weeks after the booster before allowing dogs to engage in social activities. Dogs are at higher risk for the flu when visiting: dog parks, boarding facilities, kennels, doggie day care, groomers, and pet shows/sporting events. Dog flu can spread from dog to dog, and can be transmitted indirectly through bowls, toys, clothes, or hands of the owner. If your dog shows any of the following symptoms, please contact your veterinarian immediately: coughing, discharge from eyes/nose, loss of appetite, lethargy/lack of energy.
